Did I scare you with Christmas carol lyrics? Did you open your calendar and count the weeks until Christmas? I’m actually not out to scare you. I’m hoping to motivate you.
Do you have family to your home for Thanksgiving or Christmas? If it’s a regular thing, as it is in my family, you may share my urge to get a few things done around the house so it doesn’t look the same as it did this time last year. With me?
I have decided to lighten up my family room. My sofas are still in great shape (shout out to Flexsteel-they make amazingly durable products!). That being said, for now, although I’d love lighter & more neutral ones, the sofas stay for now. So my plan is to change the wall color, window treatments & the artwork. My daughter bought us a really cool paining in Morocco & I am excited for it to take center stage.
I took advantage of a great sale at JC Penney & got 108″ fully lined panels at 50% off. If you’re curious, you can find them here. (If you’re not already on their email list to be notified if sales, go ahead & do that today, it is so well worth it!) Those will help me choose my new lighter & more neutral wall color. The winner will likely be one of my favorite “go-tos”: Benjamin Moore Shaker Beige HC-45. Although I really love they grays & greiges, neither will work with what is staying in the room.
So, today will likely be prep day (not quite as exciting as an HGTV “demo day”, but I have to take what I can get. I will remove everything from the walls, wash them all down, spackle & sand. (My favorite spackle changes from pink when it’s wet to white when it’s dry-Dap DryDex) I will move the furniture either out of the room or into the center & cover it, & roll up the rug. I’ll tape off all edges (I love Frog tape) & probably at that point will be saying to myself “does this room really need to be painted??” But it does, and at that juncture, the least fun parts will be complete.
Perhaps I will have some semblance of a complete project on Friday? It’s nice to have goals!
Have a beautiful day! ~Alyson
