The word stencil has a bad rep, doesn’t it? It brings to mind a border of apples around a country blue kitchen in the 80’s, right? But is that really where stencils end?
It is not. Stencils are now offered in aside variety of styles now. You can buy them to simulate wallpaper to create a focal wall or an overall room pattern. You can stencil a fireplace or window into a room that does not have one. The possibilities are almost limitless.
Stencils are not just for walls, either. You may find a beat up dresser or chair at your local junk shop and could give it new life with a fresh coat of paint and a stenciled pattern.
The nice thing about a stenciled pattern is that all you have to do to change it is simply paint over it. Nice, right? You may be in the mood for a new pattern or none at all, either is easily accomplished.
How about your own one of a kind window treatment? You could buy an inexpensive solid panel or roman shade at Ikea and stencil a pattern in the perfect color for your room…no one else will have it & you will have the bragging rights to this custom job!
So where should you look for these stencils? Glad you asked. Here are a few of my favorite sites:
This post also brings to mind some other fun additions to a decorating project: vinyl clings and stamps. I am a fan of wall words.com & really love when people use a quote that means a lot to them to give a room personality and make their guests feel welcome.
Stamps area also a fun thing with which you can experiment. A random pattern stamped on a wall creates interest. Stamped window treatments are another way to create an original look in just the right color for your space.
