Feeling Thankful

Posted by Alyson | November 1, 2015

Happy Fall, y’all!

I had a Halloween post that I wanted to share on Friday, but I’m having some technical difficulties with adding photos to the blog, so I will be slightly out of order, but I made a goal to post once a week and missed Friday-so I will post today and again Friday so as to not let myself (or you) down!  Thanks for your patience!  In addition to all the other things I am thankful for, my loyal readers top the list!

“The things you take for granted someone else is praying for”

The quote above is one of my favorites, often because I need reminding of all I have for which to be thankful.  Often we do take for granted the many blessings that we encounter each day, so why not use the whole Thanksgiving season to remind ourselves?

I have been reading a wonderful book “Living Life as a Thank You- the transformative power of daily gratitude”  by Nina Lesowitz.  The author has been teaching me how many things in my daily life are absolute blessings.
Fall provides with so many visuals to be thankful for:  beautiful changing leaves to decorate our carpooling routes, the opportunity to revisit those comfy sweaters we haven’t seen in months, apple cider & pumpkin spice lattes…And those are just a few “generals”, I am sure your list of specifics could get pretty long if you stopped to list them!

Being a designer, one of my favorite things about Fall is the decorating possibilities!
Nature provides some of the prettiest staples for a pretty tablescape:  apples, gourds, twigs & leaves…Plus most of these will not need to be packed away when the Christmas decorations make their appearance!  When else can you pile some simple gourds on your porch and tables and have it be gorgeous?
I think the fun in holiday decorating is trying to place your old items in new places, so each year it looks new.  Never underestimate the power of “auditioning” something in several places and with different “companions” to find a new look!  If you have trouble visualizing your items in a new place, maybe you and a friend could each decorate each other’s home!  Lay out all your stuff and let her at it while you do the same in her home!
