I have a sitting room attached to my bedroom that we use as an office. There is no door between it and my bedroom, so when the bedroom gets a refresh, it kind of goes without saying that the office will follow. However, mostly what I changed in the office was the color, as I was happy with the furniture and layout. Years ago, I saw an office suite in the Ballard designs catalog that I loved. It was well out of my price range, so i decided I would re-ceate it from pieces I got at my favorite “antique” store. Below is a photo of the Ballard Designs set:
My shop around the corner always has these tall bookshelves, and the day I went I was lucky enough to find three matching ones! I quickly brought them home at $150 for the set of three, I mean who could leave them at that price, right? They were stained a dark oak color, so I quickly got to sanding, priming and painting. I changed the hinges and knobs, and found some baskets that could hide my mess to use in the two bookcases that would flank the desk, which I found on Craigslist for $50! The original desk photo is below:
This got the same treatment: sanding priming and painting. The three pieces fit ALMOST perfectly along the wall. If I am being honest, the end bookshelf comes out past the doorway about 2 inches, but that is something I can live with.
I had a small love seat that a friend found in someone’s trash years ago, and I had cushions made for it (in the black & white toile that I had everywhere in my bedroom/sitting room at the time). I painted this black as well. My room really came together as a very comfortable office with more storage than we really even needed-when do we ever get to say that?
Please excuse how bad the photos are! It’s from many years ago and who knows what was used to take it!
I have been happy with my office for several years, but it too was screaming for an update. And, strangely enough, at the same time, Ballard came out with the same office suite in a gray color now too, so I got a preview before I even got out my paint brushes!
But very soon then I did get my paintbrushes out, which is always accompanied by my audio version of our latest book club selection. This month we are reading “Not Fade Away: A Memoir of Senses Lost & Found” by Rebecca Alexander. This one gets two thumps way up (in case you were wondering!)
I found a et of 2 armchairs on LetGo and to add some more style!
My love seat (below) cushions are out being recovered in the fabric that is laying across the top of my love seat:
And if you needed a paint color reminder, here they are:
So…Still under construction but I am quite happy with how my office is coming along! Have you been working on projects that you’d like to share??
Have a beautiful day! ~Alyson
