My wonderful husband has been at it again! I must say, he has been incredibly accommodating about my constant requests for projects, and I am so happy with this one!
In any living space it is very important to be able to set a drink down easily wherever you are sitting. (Thus my dislike of the very strange habit some people have of setting the coffee table dead center in a room instead of infant of the sofa…) When setting up a room, it’s a good idea to sit in each spot and assess how far one would need to stretch to set a drink/plate/book down on a surface. If it is a hassle, you need a table closer than is situated right now.
As I often do, I found this project while trolling Etsy. It is a little table that fits over the arm rest of your sofa, just perfect for those spots where a table would make things just a little bit too crowded. We had just such a space in our family room. I had a table between our sofa and fireplace for years, but it always bugged me, so one day I moved it. It took my family months to notice, but once they did, they made it clear that they did not like not having a table there. Enter this clever little solution.
This “sofa arm table” was not tough to make, but you need to make it to the width of your sofa arm, so it is not a “one size fits all” project. You can find the how to here. There are lots of variations-with a small magazine rack, a place for your remote, a leg that goes all the way to the floor…but we chose a simple table that just fits over the arm. This one is courtesy of remodelaholic.com
